The West German domestic intelligence agency, the "Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution" ("Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz"), announces that Hansjoachim Tiedge, the man in charge of counter-espionage against the GDR, has disappeared. The following day, the East German state-run news agency ADN reports that Tiedge has defected to the GDR.
