The SED’s central mouthpiece, "Neues Deutschland", publishes only excerpts from a speech by the Soviet party and state leader Mikhail Gorbachev on the "restructuring and cadre policies of the party". The passages in which Gorbachev expresses clear criticism of his predecessors in office are left out.
